How does DT Max calculate the CPP Contributions amount on line 9 of Schedule 8 when the taxpayer has more than one T4 slip as well as self-employment income?

In this case, the program uses the actual contributions made to the CPP/QPP rather than the theoretical contributions. This may result in an excess amount of payable contributions on self-employment income on line 10 of Schedule 8. In short, the following conditions must be met:

1) More than one T4 slip* and the sum of boxes 26 < $50,100
2) Business income
3) Combined income from T4 slips boxes 26 and business > $50,100

* Please note that this situation can also occur when there is only one T4 slip in those (rare) cases when the actual contributions made to the CPP/QPP do not correspond to the theoretical contributions.

We recommend that you wait until the release of the next version of DT Max before processing your files for clients in this situation. Please contact our support team if you need help with such a file.
